Metadata element descriptions
Basic information and definitions of the NRM metadata elements is available by holding your mouse pointer over the field heading in question within the metadata record itself. After approximately a second a text box will appear on-screen with the:
- name of the field,
- a short description, including a suggested entry format (if necessary), and
- a statement as to its entry obligation as per the ANZLIC metadata Profile AS/NZS ISO 19115:2005 and ISO19139:2007 for implementation.
- Eg. Individual name
- Name of the responsible person. (Format John Citizen)
- Mandatory
Under this profile there are three obligations for metadata entry, mandatory, conditional and optional. In the NRM metadata template only mandatory and conditional fields are advertised in the on-screen help text.
However in the NRM Data Library Portal, it is expected that ALL metadata fields be populated in ALL cases unless otherwise prompted by the on-screen help text.
The following headings are the key sections that make up the NRM metadata templates. There is a range of fields that fall into each of these sections.

Basic information about the data resource to which the metadata record applies. This information is required to identify a data resource.
DATA QUALITY INFO

REFERENCE SYSTEM INFO (not in the non-geographic template)
Description of the spatial and temporal reference systems used in the dataset.
DISTRIBUTION INFO
Provides information about the distributor of and options for obtaining the resource(s).
METADATA CONSTRAINTS

METADATA AUTHOR

NRM Data Library Portal Operational Procdures
In addition to the standard user guide for the NRM Data Library Portal, a range of operational business procedures have been developed for specific functions of the portal. These procedures have been developed in conjunction with the three Tasmanian NRM Regions and DPIPWE, to ensure consistency and efficiency in the use of the NRM Data Library Portal. These procedures cover (but are not limited to):
- Cataloguing new data on the NRM Data Library Portal
- Accessing previously catalougued data
- Requesting data for contracted NRM projects.
Access to this functionality of the site and this documentation requires an approved registration as per the NRM Data Library Conditions of Registration Policy. Once you have been granted the relevant registration to the site, you are able to access these documents via the Administration page.
